    State Parks, RV & Camping

    Washington County offers a public camping facility located directly on the banks of the Mississippi River. Whether you prefer a tent, an RV or to be under the stars, your campsite in Warfield Point Park is literally within a stone’s throw of towboats and recreational craft navigating the “Father of Waters.” Nearby Leroy Percy State Park boasts full camping facilities for RVs and tents, as well as eight beautiful cabins tucked away in this lush and remote hideaway. Alligators thrive in a pen that is fed by a geothermal spring.

    Lake Washington

    Turn right off Highway 1 South to Chatham

    A fisherman’s paradise awaits at Lake Washington, attracting anglers from across the country. One of the largest natural lakes in Mississippi, it’s well-known for excellent crappie, catfish and bluegill fishing as well as seasonal duck hunting.

    Leroy Percy State Park & Campground

    The largest and oldest of Mississippi’s state parks, Leroy Percy is characterized by its bubbling hot springs, cypress trees and ancient live oaks dripping with Spanish moss. Leroy Percy is the only state park with a wildlife preserve and is famous for a large alligator population, where visitors can safely observe them from a raised boardwalk. The park abounds with deer, squirrel, turkey, duck and dove, as well as unspoiled hunting sites. Park facilities include a snack bar, cabins, meeting rooms, fishing, RV and camping sites, and a nature trail. Open Daily.

    Theodore Roosevelt National Wildlife Refuge

    Directions: On MS-1 S, turn right at Stone Airport Rd. Turn left at Eastside Lake on Washington Road. Go approximately 4.3 miles. Turn left at Yazoo Refuge Road. Destination will be on the right.
    A cooperative effort between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Ducks Unlimited, Inc., this wetlands project, along with Leroy Percy State Park, offers some of the best bird watching in North America. The National Audubon Society’s annual bird counts conducted in this area have identified more species in Washington County than in any other inland location in the United States.

    Warfield Point features a 38-foot observation tower for a panoramic view of the Mississippi. It’s one of the few locations on the river that offers camping as well as RV and picnic facilities directly on the banks of the Mississippi, along with ATV trails and raised walkways. Open Daily.
